Vad är Yachtmaster?
RYA Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence
What is an RYA Yachtmaster
Certificate of Competence?
An RYA Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence needs a wealth of knowledge, not only to cope with plain sailing or motor cruising but also to be able to cope in demanding situations.
The RYA qualifications, in particular the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and Yachtmaster Ocean Certificates of Competence, are recognised and respected around the world. Qualification as an
RYA Yachtmaster is the ultimate aim of many skippers, both professional and recreational.
The RYA has a long, distinguished history of professional and recreational boating, with more than a century of experience and knowledge. We work tirelessly at local, national and international level to ensure that your RYA qualifications are accepted and respected as the pinnacle of yacht training.

learning. You work through a series of modules and at the end of each you complete a learning exercise. Your tutor is available to mark and guide you through every stage. At the end of your learning you are ready for the examinations which you do at home or wherever you are on the globe. All we ask is that someone invigilates
for you. The exams should not worry you, as all our courses will adequately prepare you, as long as you follow the outline. We give you full certification upon completion.

Like the Day Skipper course, this course consists of skippered passages in a variety of situations. Each trainee will skipper more challenging passages and learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations.
It is a satisfying but intensive week, with candidates often working towards a Certificate of Competence.
Most centres will expect you to complete the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course beforehand as there is insufficient time to teach you theory during the week.
Coastal Skippers should be able to undertake more difficult passages by day and night and handle the yacht in more demanding conditions. By the end of the course you should have the knowledge, if not the experience, to become a Yachtmaster.
Assumed knowledge Boat handling to the standard of Day Skipper and navigation to shorebased Coastal.

This is a course in Astro Navigation and world-wide meteorology. It assumes knowledge of all the subjects covered in the Dayskipper and Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory courses. A very fascinating course which looks at long range navigation using the celestial bodies of sun, stars, planets and moon. When the GPS fails celestial navigation will get you to your destination as it has done for navigators throughout the centuries. No mathematics involved so long as you can add and subtract basic numbers. It gives you a great thrill to fix your position from the heavenly bodies.
